Engage Customers with Mobile Marketing

Written by Dominique Ford

There are smartphones and “dumb” phones. One thing they have in common is the ability to communicate via text message. I’m sure almost everyone you know has some type of mobile device, except maybe your 90 year old grandma. Since technology is accelerating at speeds faster than anyone can calculate, you’ve got to know the best practices to catch and maintain your customers’ attention.

Mobile marketing offers a way to connect with customers’ by interacting with them on their terms. Contests engage consumers and reinforce your brand in their minds. Below are a few mobile marketing ideas for engaging your customers:

  • Text-to-Win contests build an instant opt-in database of potential leads and customers. Those who opt-in not only do it purposely, but they’re a captive audience. Ensure that the information you’re sending to them is consistent with your brand, products and is rewarding.
  • QR codes are losing traction, but if you promote them correctly, they can be significantly rewarding. For instance, Texas Roadhouse saw a 17% redemption rate in their loyalty program where they offered a free appetizer in exchange for customers providing their contact information such as phone number. Less than 3% of those who opted-in immediately opted-out after receiving the promotional item. Take a look at other successful campaigns.

Regardless of what tools you use to engage customers with technology, it must be relevant to each individual, possess a call to action and demonstrate value.
